Giving Back To Our Community
At Start Smiling, we believe dentistry is about more than appointments. Over the years, our team has supported charity projects, awareness campaigns and community initiatives that help improve oral health and support people beyond the practice.
This page shares some of the causes and campaigns our team has been proud to support.
Explore helpful dental advice, treatment guides and practice updates from the Start Smiling team. Our blogs are designed to help you understand your options, care for your smile and feel more informed before visiting the practice.
Dental Mavericks
Start Smiling has been proud to support Dental Mavericks, a UK-registered dental charity that provides dental care and oral health support for vulnerable communities, including projects in Morocco.
Members of our team have supported Dental Mavericks fundraising and volunteering activity, helping raise awareness of the charity’s work to reduce daily dental pain and improve access to oral health support.
To find out more about the charity or support their work, please visit the Dental Mavericks website.
Dental Mavericks is registered with the Charity Commission under charity number 1145872.
Mouth Cancer Action Month
As part of Mouth Cancer Action Month, Start Smiling has previously supported awareness activity in the practice, including offering mouth cancer screening and helping patients understand the importance of checking for changes in the mouth.
To help start conversations and make the campaign more memorable, the team created a Beatles-themed awareness day with practice decorations and photographs from the event.
Mouth Cancer Action Month takes place every November and encourages people to be mouth aware, understand possible signs and seek professional advice if they notice changes.
When To Seek Advice
Please book a dental appointment if you notice a mouth ulcer that does not heal, a lump, red or white patches, unexplained bleeding, persistent soreness, difficulty swallowing or any change in your mouth that concerns you.
If symptoms are urgent or you are unsure what to do, please contact a healthcare professional for advice.
